Inserting and Formatting Tables

OnStyle provides tools for creating tables with proper titles and applying table-related styles. These features ensure tables follow the formatting rules defined in the activeย DocConfig. Available in both Essential and Professional editions from version 3.4.ย

Create a Table #

  1. Open / Create a document and on theย OnStyle Ribbon > Configurationย menu group assign aย DocConfigย
  2. Place the cursor where you want to insert the table.ย
  3. On theย OnStyle Ribbon, go to theย Tools >ย Tablesย group.ย
  4. Clickย Create Table.ย
  5. In the dialog, specify the number of columns, rows, andย headerย rows.ย
  6. Select theย Table set name. The available sets come from the activeย DocConfigย andย define the tableโ€™s formatting, includingย bordersย etc.ย
  7. (Optional) Choose aย Specialย variation, if defined in theย DocConfig. Special tables applyย additionalย formatting rules, such asย the header row, the first column, or the table bodyย stylesย .ย
  8. Select theย Table Title Styleย to control the appearance of the caption above the table.ย
  9. Enter theย Table Titleย text. OnStyle inserts andย numbersย the title automatically, using the selected style.ย
  10. (Optional) Addย Footer partsย if the tableย requiresย ย them. Depending on theย DocConfig, a footer can be defined as a merged row at the bottom of the table or as a dedicated note paragraph placed directly below theย tableย .ย The footer uses the style defined in theย DocConfig.ย
  11. Clickย Insert.ย
  12. OnStyle inserts a table formatted according to theย DocConfig, including header, footer, and cell styles.ย

Insert a Table title #

  1. Place the cursor above the table.ย
  1. On theย OnStyle Ribbon, go to theย Tools >ย Tablesย group.ย
  1. In theย Label Textย field, type the descriptive part of the title (for example, โ€œStudy Resultsโ€). OnStyle inserts the text after the table number (for example, โ€œTable 1 Study Resultsโ€). This function can also be applied to existing text. In that case, the selected text is converted into aย tableย title and formatted according to the assignedย DocConfig.ย
  1. In theย Label Styleย field, select the style that controls the formatting of the label.ย
  1. Clickย Insertย Table Title.ย
  1. OnStyle inserts a properly numbered table title in the style defined by theย DocConfigย (for example, โ€œTable 1: Titleโ€).ย

Apply Table-related styles #

The following predefined styles are available in theย Tablesย group:ย

  • Table Footerย โ€“ applies footer text styling for notes or references below a table.ย
  • Table Cell Stylesย โ€“ apply consistent formatting to table content as defined in theย DocConfig.ย

Useย OnStyleโ€™sย table tools instead of Wordโ€™s default Insert Table. This ensures captions, headers, and formatting remain compliant withย DocConfigย rules.ย
