Creating and Updating Table of Contents

OnStyle provides tools for creating and managing a Table of Contents (TOC) and related lists such as List of Figures (LOF)List of Tables (LOT), and List of Appendices (LOA). These tools ensure TOCs follow the formatting rules defined in the active DocConfig. Available in both Essential and Professional editions .

Insert a TOC or related list  #

  1. Place the cursor where you want the TOC or list to appear.
  2. On the OnStyle Ribbon, go to the TOC group in the Tools menu group.
  3. Choose one of the available options:
    • Insert TOC (All)ย = one unified block (TOC+LOF+LOT+List of Appendices). Available in Professional edition only.ย
    • Insert Long TOC = expanded, multi-level TOC
    • Insert Simple TOC โ€“ generates a shorter version for quick navigation.
    • Insert Detailed TOC โ€“ generates a multi-level TOC with headings as defined in the DocConfig. Available in Professional edition only.
    • Insert LOA (List of Appendices) โ€“ lists appendices defined in the document.
    • Insert LOF (List of Figures) โ€“ lists all figures with titles and page numbers.
